First of all, I wanted to send out a quick thanks to ALL who made Monday's SAVE (Suicide Prevention Voices of Education) Golf Event a complete success. It was the first time that I've attended a SAVE event and it was wonderful. A few of us from WeatherNation were there too, attempting to keep the ball in play/not make complete and utter fools of ourselves on the course - I think we managed. One thing I do know... we had a great time! The golf course (TPC in Blaine) was absolutely gorgeous and the weather couldn't have been much nicer! Again, a big thanks to ALL who made Monday's event great.


Take a look at the image below - it is the long range model (7 days). I've highlighted some important numbers, which include the high temperature forecast for this specific model (GFS). The first red circle is the high temperature forecast (from GFS) for Tuesday, the second red circle is the high temperature forecast for Wednesday and so on... Notice the high temperature forecasts for Thursday and Friday, they're in the low 90's. Dew points or the direct measurement of how much moisture is in the air stays in the 60's, which is "Un-comfy" category for Minnesotans. The other important highlight is the % probability of rain, which is highlighted in the green circles for the same days listed above. Minimal rain chances continue until Friday when we see our rain chance bump to near 20%, which is still quite low. Sunday and Monday appear to be the days with the best chance of rain (50% to 60%)

Why is it going to be so warm?

The image above shows a major shift in the jet stream or strong upper level winds. Instead of having a trough of low pressure over the Great Lakes, spilling cool air from Canada into the Upper Midwest, we've seen the jet stream lift northward allowing the summer heat from the southwest to bubble northward. Chatting with friends and co-workers, you'll come across a few that will complain about the heat this week, they may also be the same people that complained about July being so cool and may even rave about wanting summer weather during January and February. Minnesota weather certainly isn't for the faint of heart, is it? We definitely earn our summers here and we might as well enjoy a little heat, a little humidity, before it's gone. Just keep in mind, football season has already started... it's not long now before the crisp autmun days beckon your heavy sweaters from the back of the closet that you only put back there a month ago - SIGH!

Weather Headlines

* Mainly dry week (no widespread rain) with temps getting into the "Stinking Hot" category. Considering we haven't had much in the way of heat this summer, 90 degrees will feel hot.

* Storms arrive Friday and Friday night, should dry out (and heat up again) Saturday.

* Next Sunday: late-day T-storms may complicate outdoor plans, most of the day looks dry, warm, humid with morning/midday sun giving way to increasing PM clouds.

Saturday: Steamy again with tropical sunshine, very humid. Showers and storms possible. High: 88

Sunday: Fewer showers and storms, a bit cooler. High: 84
